Description

The Stanford Anscombe Society is hosting their third annual west coast conference, The Family United: Marriage as a Force for Social Good, on April 23, 2016 at Stanford University.

The debate surrounding marriage often employs the rhetoric of defense, more reliant on critiques of modern alternatives to marriage than on the independent good of marriage itself. While it is true that marriage has suffered greatly at the hands of increasing rates of divorce and premarital cohabitation, the Stanford Anscombe Society (SAS) challenges the idea that the rhetoric of defense is an effective way to counter these trends. Turning instead towards a more positive rhetoric, SAS is proud to present its third annual conference, The Family United: Marriage as a Force for Social Good, exploring the inherent beauty of marriage and the power of a family-centered society. The Family United will delve into a number of ways marriage does a critical good for our society, including the importance of a stable family for the welfare of children, the economic value of marriage in minority communities, the consequences associated with no-fault divorce, and how young people can foster a marriage-centered dating culture. We hope you can join us!
